The Somali Australian Community Association SACA- NSW recently held a very successful Somali Cultural Festival event as part of the Multicultural NSW Stronger Together Festivals and Events at Auburn Centre for Communities. This Somali Cultural Festival showcased traditional Somali cultural performances, dance and folk play as well as poetry, storytelling from Somali elders in regards to our history, life as a refugee in Australia. We also had Somali Cultural wear fashion show, delicious Somali food and plenty of cultural artefacts including the set up of the ‘Aqal’ (Nomadic house).
All in all, a wonderful event and we hope to run many more of these type of festivals/events in order to showcase our rich Somali cultural heritage.
